This double page is in my art journal, but is kind of a mix of art journaling and scrapbooking, as i wanted something a bit quick because for me the most important bit of this page is the writing (which I hadn't done when this photo was taken). On this page i wrote all the things I am proud to have achieved up to this date. There were big things on it like having a book published in Germany and some small things like 'I'm proud I am much better at finishing things now that I am older'. I used to be terrible at starting stories or art projects, or quilts, or embroideries and never finishing anything. Don't get me wrong. i still have UFOs but there are less of them and they have a MUCH higher chance of being discovered or my passion rekindled and the thing getting finished. ANYWAY...to make this page I used some scrapbooking paper, tore it in half, stencilled in a few layers in a colour to match the purple bird and flower on the paper, stamped a few messy circles...

Progress and One Month Goal

Image
I'm making steady progress on my hexagon quilt now. Here is today's offering, an orange hex flower And here is one row of flowers, plus cream/white row plus the four hex flowers I have yet to add (so you can see total progress); But this project actually has nothing to do with my one month goal. For that I have another pile of fabric; June 26th is my wedding anniversary. My husband has been asking for a new supporters quilt. His old one is looking very tired. So my goal for June is to turn this bundle of fabric into an Essendon (AFL) quilt. I plan to use the bomber plane emblem as a large applique (satin stitched on the machine) ...probably with the red as the background. I hope I can get it done as I would like it to be a surprise, so i can't work on it while he is at home. Wish me luck. And go check out the other monthly goals here; If you would like to follow me, there is a button on the left side of my page, but it is kind of well hidden....

Enjoyment

Two posts in one day! I wanted to follow the free tutorial on healing through art at Tamara's site http://willowing.ning.com/ And even though I feel AWFUL. With this stupid cold, by following her instructions I created something I'm pretty proud of Not only do i really like the double page and my faces continue to improve ... it was really healing. So thank you Tamara. And maybe you have found your way here through Brenda's Blog party so thank you again Brenda.

Doodle

Image
I love to doodle on pages. I had this painted background which I had no idea what to do with. So I started drawing in black pen and it came to life. I will have to doodle more. It's so much fun.

Project Life Challenge

Image
I found the project life (journalling) blog and loved the idea, so i went ahead and completed a page using the prompts ... book text and Goal Keeper. I've always wanted to try text under a face and this was the perfect opportunity to give it a go. The artists associated with the blog produced their own pages and I watched their video tutorials and looked at their photo tutorials before starting the page. Here is the result; I am really happy with the outcome. Materials used; old books for papers with text, acrylic paints, PVA glue, medium black marker, watercolour pencils, gold paint, lettering book used to reference the lettering. This required lots of layering and it took a long time, but the effect it wonderful. I've already layered the opposite page with text and paint ready to write my long term goals on (I'd already done a 2015 goal page (see below). Thanks for looking Jennidee

Experimenting and Critics

Image
I hated this page yesterday, that's why I wrote 'an art journal is experimenting and playing' at the bottom of the page. Then I looked at it again this afternoon and saw some possibilities. I added the dark brown flower stencil and I felt it brought the page together. Now I'm very happy with it. We are certainly our own worst critics a lot of the time. Yesterday my daughter was drawing and she had done a brilliant job of copying a character she loves. But she threw her hands up in disgust and marched out of the room because the face wasn't right. I let her go. Then half an hour later I brought the drawing to her WITHOUT the image she had been copying from and told her to look at it again. She smiled and said that actually it wasn't that bad a drawing. I pointed out the amazing tiny hands she had drawn and she smiled even wider. So i guess the lesson is to sometimes walk away from things and look again with fresh eyes later. things don't always turn...
